This is Manchester
Essential means what is left when everything unnecessary has been taken away. An extrait is the same idea, in glass. We make extraits and nothing else, and we will not dilute a city to make it easier to wear. Quiet is not the same as faint.

- A Manchester fragrance house making small-batch Extrait de Parfum. Each scent is built from a single reference in the city's archive — a venue, a street, a woman, a discovery — and finished with the geometric bee, Manchester's oldest mark cut into facets.
- What is an Extrait de Parfum?
- The most concentrated grade a fragrance house produces. Everything MCR Essentials makes is an extrait, developed in Manchester and hand-filled there in small runs.
- What is in Batch 001?
- Four extraits. Dançe, drawn from the Haçienda. NQ, from the Northern Quarter. Emmeline, from Emmeline Pankhurst. Graphene, from the University of Manchester, where the material was first isolated.
- What is The Archive: Discovery Set?
- A drawer box holding all four extraits in 2ml glass, in the order the archive was written. The intended price is £25, redeemable in full against a first 100ml bottle at £145. Prices are indicative until Batch 001 is on sale.
- When is Batch 001 released?
- Not yet. The archive opens first to a small early-access list. Leave an address and we will write once, with the release date, the redemption terms and first refusal on the discovery set.
- Is anything on sale now?
- No. Batch 001 is pre-market and nothing on this site can be bought. Registering for early access places no obligation on you and forms no contract.
- Is the range unisex?
- Yes. The extraits are built from places and stories, not from who is expected to wear them. Nothing in the archive is gendered.
