About us
This is Manchester

Arrival
It rains here. That is why the cotton came: damp air keeps a thread from snapping. The thing everyone complains about is the reason there is a city at all. We have never apologised for the weather and we are not going to start.
The worker bee represents the industrial heritage. Manchester took it as its mark when the mills ran day and night and the whole city, seen from a distance, was a hive.
The atom was first split in this city. The first machine that could remember its own instructions ran here. A material one atom thick was lifted off a block of graphite with a strip of tape, on a Friday night, because someone wanted to see what would happen. None of it was announced. It was noticed later, the way a scent is.

Heart
Essential means what is left when everything unnecessary has been taken away. An extrait is the same idea, in glass. We make extraits and nothing else, and we will not dilute a city to make it easier to wear. Quiet is not the same as faint.
Everything we make comes from somewhere you could stand. A dance floor. A street in the rain. A woman on a chair, telling a square what it was going to do next. A laboratory after hours. Not a mood, not a market, not a word chosen because it sounds expensive.
A place does not ask who you are before it lets you in. Neither do we. Nothing here was made for a kind of person. It was made from a place.
We would rather make less. Small runs, filled by hand, and counted. Luxury is not distance from ordinary life. It is attention paid to it.
This city has always preferred doing to saying. So do we.

Legacy
A scent’s sillage is the last thing to leave a room, and the first thing to put you back in one.
So we make things to be kept. The box, the glass, the batch. An archive is a promise that someone will come back to it, and we intend to be here when they do.
Manchester doesn’t need to shout. If it isn’t heard, it’s smelt.
